Last night’s book launch was anything but your typical literary affair. Instead of quiet murmurs and polite applause, we were treated to a vibrant blend of words and smooth saxophone melodies. Author Judith Hall’s new release, “Too Fat Too Thin Why Do I Hate the Skin I am In”, was celebrated with a truly unique atmosphere, thanks in large part to the incredible performance by Howard ‘Saxi’ Messam.
As guests mingled and browsed copies of the book, Saxi’s soulful tunes filled the room, weaving a captivating backdrop to the evening. The music, a mix of smooth jazz and bluesy undertones, perfectly complemented the themes of Empowerment and Self Discovery It wasn’t just background music; it was a conversation, a dialogue between the written word and the expressive power of the saxophone.
Judith read excerpts from her book, her voice resonating with the music, creating a truly immersive experience. The combination of storytelling and live music added a layer of depth and emotion that a traditional reading simply couldn’t have achieved.
It was a refreshing reminder that book launches can be more than just formal events. They can be celebrations of art in all its forms, where literature and music intertwine to create something truly special. If you’re looking for a book that resonates and a launch that leaves a lasting impression, keep an eye out for “Too Fat Too Thin Why Do I Hate the Skin I am In” and, if you’re lucky, maybe even a saxophone serenade.
